Text etiquette

I am still not one of those guys that has embraced the texting revolution but I have maintained the phone upgrades every year.  I feel there is nothing like talking whether by phone or face to face.  This is becoming  old school communication and its happening fast and right in front of me.  I try to resist it  and one way  is my response time to text messages is not instant.  This is not because I want to it is because I never know when they arrive.  I am sure this could be remedied easily but its just  not very high on my priority list.  If it was an emergency I feel  they would have called because  everyone that I know  knows they call me and I am there.  I guess I said all that to say I love the new technology and all that they  allow you  constant  and instant  contact  with friends and family but  when a  new fad  causes you to become rude and other wise distracted I'm not ok with it.

Hacker Kits

This story just blows my mind about people selling hacker kits that can make your job of stealing someone elses money easier.  How does that sound?  The fact that it is not legal should make this not avaiable to the public but it doesn't actually there sells have more then doubled from last year.  Plus you no longer have to know someone to get them just google it and there it is.  Now the price really surprise me the advertise price was $500 - 1000 dollars for one of the kits.  When I googled it these high priced sites did not show but there were little sites that offered nothing but talk for a small fee.  I will keep looking and report back.

Instead of Power Point

I just listen to a presentation that was given with a so call replacement for power point called Knowledge Vision developed by Michael Kilowich.  This powerful new application boasted of crisp slides with high resolution for pictures and charts that have been added to the presentations.  It also stated its availability was 24/7 from the web.  This would allow customers to have access to presentations at anytime and from anywhere the internet is available.  You can visit the site http://www.knowledgevision.com/  from there watch the video.  This was actually a refreshing and welcome upgrade from the way that we are accustomed to delivering a power point presentation.

Spy Phone Software

You know I have a bad taste  in my mouth for hackers that use there skills for evil or greed.  I ran across this article that made an attempt to rationalize the use of spyware.  Granted some people may think this is a necessary evil because you can use it to keep tabs on your partner if you think they are being unfaithful.  It can save you money that you would pay a private detective.  I don't know of anyone that would do that just wait because anything done in the dark will come to light.   Spyware is really a wide group of possibly harmful software that might insert itself on cell phones commonly from the web.  We all know what spyware is and we use a lot of software to find and delete it.  Now they are offering to inform us on how to get it and use it.  I would never.  You can read this at: http://techtechy.com/precisely-what-is-spy-phone-software/.

What's going on

Today I can only think about what is going on in Libya.  It is hard to except that a ruler has so much disregard for human life that he attacks them simply because of disagreements.  Qadafi is a madman and should be removed from office.  I realize there system of politics is not the same as ours but Libya has allies who are willing to step in and handle this bully.  Hooray for them!!!  I realized that I should be discussing new technology  but  when it is being used to assist in the destruction of a class of people I just wanted to express my feelings about the situation.

Hackers

One again I am talking abut hackers but it is a good thing this time.  Mr.Cherry had a link to a couple sites that caught my eye.  Hackers have thee own world and there are classes that you put yourself into by the decisions you make with the use of your skills.  This put pressure on the hackers because if you are greedy and smart you are label in the grey category.  This shows that if you find a hole in a companies security system you do not notify the company you look for buyers who will pay a lot more than the company will.  So all the companies that have not made up there minds to work with hackers might want to rethink there positions.  There are more bad people out there and the number is rising.

Todays topic is Hackers are needed

I never thought that I would say it but after listening to webcast I find that there is a place for reformed hackers.  They are used to desvise ways eo break into computer systems and also develop a fix.  I still feel that it is a reactive process instead of being proactive.  With all criminals now becoming more computer literate this has become the growing crimes of the future.  Get rich schemes that require us as users to divulge personal information just to be ripped off and then made to feel that its there fault for being duped..  I

What I found this week

You know nobody wants to be involved in an accident but Ford has introduce new technology for back seat passengers.  They have come out with the rear seat inflatable seatbelt.  This seat belt inflates slower that the front seat air bags and it uses a different inflation method.  The front seat air bags inflate using a warm chemical gas and the rear seatbelt inflates using a cold compressed gas.  This restraint is design to reduce neck, chest and head injuries.  Ford received the AJAC award for best new technology.  I found this to be interesting because I am thinking about buying a new car after graduation and I was leaning toward a foreign vehicle but now I will look at domestic.

The more I study the more I learn

This week I learned more about setting up a network and increasing the security on my network.  I did the usual and created a new user name and password but there are a couple more things that  pretty standard that you can do to add layers of security to you network.  One thing was changing the SSID that comes as a default name for whatever router you purchase.  Then there is the ability to create a security key through network and security.  As  I have said in the past it is rewarding to read and actually use what you read.  Until next week Happy Valentine day!!!!!!!!

Being open minded

We recently had an exercise where we had to give information on setting up virtual environment.  I knew of a couple but my mind was tilted to the cloud.  I did a lot of reading on the cloud and setting up the cloud and all the cloud software that you need to accomplished the scenario that was presented.  then while going through my instructors blog again  I happen to click a link for Gigaspaces and there I read about XAP 8.0 a new product produce by an old company.  It is a single product that when used creates the precise scenario of my exercise.  I put a lot of time in my investigation but there is still a lot of products out there you just have to keep your mind open and not rely on your first choice.

Mistakes Setting up this blog

I have been racking my brain trying to remember my userid and password and it never came to me.  I submitted my email address and it came back saying there was no blog.  I went back over the instructions for creating the blog and followed them and i got to my blog but once again I could not login.  I was laying in the bed this morning thinking about the 0 that I would get and it hit me.  Try another email address and I did and here I am.  What I have learned about computers this week is do not trust your memory it is always best to keep good notes about everything that you do and everything you create because one day you will have to revisit .  You try to follow the instructions that you were taught but there is always that one time when things don't work like they should.  Remember keep you a notepad or notebook that you can use whenever you start a new endeavor, keep track of ID's & pwd.

New stuff from my classes

I was doing my classwork for one of my CTS classes and it taught me a process that I could use that day.  It did require me to set it up but the benefits I think would be greater than the time that I would donate to the task.  It is called mail merging which allows you to personalize form-letters that requires mass distribution.  I know that this has always been out there but it is just the joy of learning something and being able to make it apart of your daily life.  Just as it will be once we all graduate and get that first job that will pay us for doing something we love.  Once there then you will know the joy that i get from these little insignificant moments that I like to share with you'll.

My favorite past time

You know I hate signing on to my computer because everytime I sign on, hours go by before I realize that I forgot to do something.  If there is something that I was supposed to do it is forgotten.  This is a love hate relationship[ that I have going on with my computer.  The weird thing is I am not on one it usually is two or more.  With this security class every project that is at the end of the chapter I try them on all the computers in the house.  My son wants to use his computer and i'll tell him he has to wait until I finish running all this new stuff.  Then I will go to my mom's house and start working on her computer and my brother's. From there I go down to my mom's church and help out with backing up there computer and trying to assist them in getting the most out of the applications they use.  And to top it all off I have a few clients that actually pay me to do what I like to do.  Solve problems.  To me computers are more fun when they don't do exactly what you want them to.

Introduction of Andre Royal

I would like to offer my apologies upfront for all the mistakes that will surely come.  This is my first introduction the to the blogging world.  I am from the old school of the computer world back before there were desktops that now contain all the niffty software applications like Microsoft Office.  I wrote programs that created the forms in which the data entry clerks used to populate databases.  Back when you walk around with a box of computer generated cards that had to be loaded into a card reader to run your programs called JCL cards.  Please do not drop them because your order will be lost and trying to put them back together was mind blowing.  This is a wonderful age in which we now live.  I truly can appreciate the new technology and advancements that have been made.  I look forward to sharing some more of my ancient war stories with all of you.
